DAL Agriculture offers a range of training and development opportunities, alongside its standard safety activities. Current initiatives include:
On the job training
Our Al Waha farm is pioneering a comprehensive training scheme, with trainees being schooled in all aspects of farm operations and safety skills. Our training initiative is setting a new benchmark for farm education in Sudan, with emphasis being placed on such areas as:
- Operations - Tractor & equipment operations, machine maintenance and optimisation, materials handling, irrigation equipment maintenance and optiimisation, fence building and maintenance
- Safety - operations, chemicals, fire, farm hygiene
- Basic farm skills, discipline, awareness, communication, data logging.
Training is hands on, with classroom based learning provided where necessary. External consultants and trainers are brought in where necessary.
Al Massa'ad partnership
DAL Agriculture has recently teamed up with Al Massa'ad, a government body based in Jezeera State to offer training in fodder production. DAL Agriculture is employees from both organisations at the Al Waha farm - using its own, and Al Massa'ad equipment.
We run a competitive programme offering approximately ten work experience places per year to students who have recently graduated in vocational subjects such as mechanics and electrics. At the end of the work experience period, a number of the students are offered full time employment with the remainder supplied with formal work experience certificates.
At any one time we offer 5-6 'work placement' opportunities to students on our farms. All placements are formally endorsed by the students' universities.
