Alfalfa is known as the ‘queen of forage’; it is one of the highest yielding fodder crops, with the highest relative feed value (RFV). Alfalfa flourishes in Sudan’s hot, dry climate growing all year round.
Our alfalfa, branded ‘Dessi’, which means ‘fresh’ in Nubian, is sun-dried to ensure that it is fresh tasting and mould free. Sudanese alfalfa is much sought after by dairies across the Middle East and Gulf region.
Dessi adheres to the USDA (US Department of Agriculture) specifications for alfalfa. We mainly supply ‘premium’ grade alfalfa (specification below), although other grades may be available on request.
|Relative Feed Value (RFV)||170-185|
|Acid Detergent Fibre (ADF||27-29%|
|Neutral Detergent Fibre (NDF)||34-36%|
|Total Digestible Nutrients – 100% (TDN)||60.5-62%|
|Total Digestible Nutrients – 90% (TDN)||54.5-55.9%|
Crude Protein (CP)
USDA describes premium quality alfalfa as “early maturity, pre-bloom, extra leafy and fine stemmed. Factors indicative of high nutritive content. Hay is green and free of damage.”
Dessi is supplied according to the above standards, with trials and certification on request.
